Colossal Transformation

Not your basic cookie cutter renovation.

Naturally, every homeowner wants to stretch every dollar as far as possible and build the most house they can for their dollar.  This project converted a 1,200 square foot home into a 7,000 square foot mansion.  This massive and ambitious addition, with complex roof lines of 33 hips and valleys became more of a challenge when the homeowner, who operates his business from the home, wanted to continue living in the house during the addition.

Fernando Duarte and Charles Sciberras of Cass-A-Bella Construction had met the homeowner at the Interior Design Show, and informed the homeowner that this project would be the largest addition that they will have ever tackled.  But the homeowner was impressed by their passion for design and building and their philosophy of “treat your clients like family and respect the investment of each homeowner regardless of the budget size” and decided to put his trust in them.

The complexity of this 7,000 square foot French chateau-style addition, which started late fall, was built from the two ends and worked towards the middle. The middle being the existing house, which h during the framing stage was dismantled room by room while the homeowner and his family lived in the home.  This extraordinary addition had the usual extravagant essentials for a home of this stature, such as a two-storey library/office, upper catwalk, Scarlet O’Hara staircase, an elevator, lit cathedral crown reversed and vaulted ceilings, cantilever hallways, movie theatre, six-car garage with car lifts, polished marble, bedroom sized ensuite with arches and colonial columns, limestone fireplaces, extensive stone work and commercial-size structure steel.

As complex as this project was, 11 months later the masterpiece was completed.  For anyone else planning a renovation, the homeowner offers this advice, “Do not be discouraged by the time that it takes for you to find the right builder, or to design the project that fits your family’s needs, budget or investment strategy because eventually you will find the right builder for you as I did.  At Cass-A-Bella, they offer a service that reminds me of the good old days when a man gave his word and it meant something.”

With 20 years in the addition industry, Sciberras has designed more than 100 projects.  Each and every one completed based on investment return, project budget and architectural aesthetics.  Duarte has been building large-scale additions and new homes for the past 10 years, each one more complex than the other.

They believe that all homeowners, regardless of the value of the addition, should receive the same care and attention to detail and service.  “Building an addition should be a wonderful experience for homeowners.  It is our responsibility to make sure they are looked after like family” said Mr.; Duarte.  This company philosophy helped make this major addition a stunning success.
